Indexation Check skill
The playbook Moonrank's SEO Agent uses to check nine things per URL — status, blocking directives, sitemap, internal links, content depth — and report the causes of missing pages, not just the symptoms.
Download the methodology, see how the agent separates cause from status, or run it live inside the SEO Agent.

What is the Indexation Check skill?
The Indexation Check skill is how Moonrank's SEO Agent answers the question that comes before every content decision: can Google actually index this page? It checks status codes, robots directives, noindex tags in both the HTML and the response headers, sitemap coverage and freshness, inbound internal links, and content depth — then reports what is broken and why.
Its discipline is the separation of cause and status. An audit that only reads status says "200 OK" about a page carrying an accidental noindex. It also never records an untestable URL as an unindexed one, because those two findings lead to opposite decisions.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to run your own audit, hand it to a developer as a brief, or let the SEO Agent run it against your workspace.
See it in action
“Traffic dropped last month and the content hasn't changed. What happened?”
Three pages carry a noindex that wasn't there in your last audit — including /pricing, which was your second-highest entry page. Two more return 301 chains through http before landing on https. Nine articles have zero inbound internal links, so nothing on the site points at them. The noindex on /pricing is the whole drop; the rest is debt worth clearing after.
From input to fix list
- 1
You point at the pages
A sitemap, a URL list, or the articles already published in your workspace.
- 2
Moonrank checks the causes
Status and redirects, robots.txt, noindex in HTML and headers, sitemap coverage, inbound links, content depth.
- 3
It reads the observed status
What Search Console reports per URL — with untestable kept strictly apart from unindexed.
- 4
It reports critical issues first
A noindex on a money page leads the report; stale sitemap dates come later.
Everything it checks
Status and redirect chains
Final status per URL, plus systematic redirects worth removing.
Blocking directives
robots.txt rules and noindex in both the meta tag and the X-Robots-Tag header.
Sitemap coverage and freshness
Missing entries, orphan entries, and lastmod dates older than six months.
Orphan page detection
Inbound internal link counts per URL, so pages nothing points at are named.
Thin content flags
Word counts on the main content, with a threshold that suits atomic pages.
An honest limits section
Everything the audit could not test, and why, rather than a confident blank.
When to reach for it
- Explain a traffic drop that the content doesn't explain.
- Check a site's foundation before a redesign or migration goes live.
- Find the pages nothing on your own site links to.
- Audit a prospect's site before a sales call.
- Verify the base is sound before scaling a programmatic project.
