What is the Meta Descriptions skill?
The Meta Descriptions skill is how Moonrank's SEO Agent turns the snippet under your title into a working sales line: auditing what's missing, duplicated, or rewritten by Google, then writing a specific, query-matched pitch for each page that needs one.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to rewrite your own snippets, hand it to a copywriter as a brief, or let the SEO Agent audit and rewrite them page by page.
Downloading the playbook is free with a Moonrank account. Watching CTR, catching Google's rewrites, and refreshing the snippets that stop working is what the SEO Agent does continuously.
See it in action
“We rank top 5 for most of our money queries but the clicks aren't there. What's wrong?”
Thirty-eight of your top 60 landing pages share the same templated description, and 14 more get rewritten by Google — a mismatch signal. Your comparison page ranks #3 with a 2.1% CTR where the position norm is 9%. Rewriting the 22 worst pages with query-matched, sub-155-character descriptions closes a gap worth roughly 1,800 clicks a month.
From input to fix list
- 1
You provide your pages and queries
The URLs to work on and the query each one targets, with Search Console connected for CTR data.
- 2
Moonrank audits every snippet
The agent flags missing, duplicated, truncated descriptions — and the ones Google rewrites.
- 3
It writes query-matched replacements
Each description leads with the query's language, adds a concrete fact, and fits the pixel limit.
- 4
It verifies Google kept the text
Two weeks later it checks the live SERP; a rewrite means the copy gets another pass.
Everything it checks
Description audit
Missing, duplicated, truncated, and rewritten-by-Google snippets, per URL.
CTR gap detection
Pages whose click rate falls below the norm for their position.
Query matching
Descriptions that open with the searcher's own words, where Google bolds them.
Pixel-limit fitting
Every description written to survive the SERP uncut, not gambled on an ellipsis.
Specificity rewrite
Vague claims replaced with a number, a timeframe, or a named outcome.
Rewrite monitoring
A follow-up check on whether Google kept your text or overrode it.
When to reach for it
- Fix the pages that rank well but never get the click.
- Replace one boilerplate description copied across 400 pages.
- Stop Google from rewriting snippets that don't match the query.
- Lift CTR on money pages without touching their content.
- Give a copywriter a per-page brief instead of a character-count rule.
