What is the AEO Clusters skill?
The AEO Clusters skill is how Moonrank's GEO Agent plans a topic for answer engines. It replaces TOFU/MOFU/BOFU — a description of a sales funnel — with the three intents a retrieval system actually distinguishes: Know-Simple for extractable facts, Know for explanations it synthesises, and Do for the tasks a reader or an autonomous agent wants to complete.
The output is at least fifteen satellite pages, each with exactly one target query, a page format, a schema type and a place in the linking map. The distribution matters as much as the list: a cluster that is all Know pages gets cited for explanations and never for anything a buyer does.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to plan your own cluster, hand it to a content lead as a brief, or let the GEO Agent build it for your pillar keyword.
See it in action
“We have one big guide on our main topic and it ranks fine. Why aren't we cited in AI answers?”
Because one page answers one question, and an answer engine assembles from several. Your guide covers the Know intent well and nothing else — no extractable definitions for the Know-Simple queries, no tool for the Do queries. The cluster adds 11 short definitional pages that are quotable in under 50 words, and one calculator, which is the only page in the plan a buyer would act on.
From input to fix list
- 1
You name the pillar keyword
The topic to own, the sector, and whether a real tool can be built.
- 2
Moonrank maps the sub-intents
Every question in the topic, sorted into Know-Simple, Know and Do.
- 3
It generates the cluster
At least 15 satellite pages, one target query each, with format and schema assigned.
- 4
It designs the linking and order
Satellites to pillar, Know to Do, and a roadmap that puts effort where it pays.
Everything it checks
The three-intent framework
Know-Simple, Know and Do — what a retrieval system distinguishes, not a sales funnel.
Fifteen-plus satellite pages
A full cluster with a balanced distribution across the three intents.
One query per page
Mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive — cannibalization prevented at the plan stage.
Format and schema per page
The page type and the structured data that suits its intent.
An internal linking map
Satellites to pillar, and Know pages into Do pages along the reader's real path.
A sequenced roadmap
Ordered by demand, competition, conversion and honest production effort.
When to reach for it
- Plan a topic so answer engines can draw on all of it.
- Restructure a scattered library into thematic clusters.
- Find which sub-intents your coverage misses entirely.
- Prevent cannibalization before a single page is written.
- Balance a plan that is all explanation and no action.
